How it started

I'm Rayan — 20 years old, video editor, student. I started editing my own videos, got obsessed with the craft, and eventually turned it into a career. The jump from hobby to profession wasn't planned. It just happened because I couldn't stop doing it.

The niche came naturally. I was 9 when I watched Spirited Away — something about the storytelling stuck. Over the years I got into Japanese media, picked up some of the language, and started following Japan travel content closely. When I started taking editing seriously, specialising in this space was the obvious move.

It's a good fit professionally. I understand the genre, I know what audiences expect, and I study the language — which means I can catch context in footage that most editors would miss entirely.

哲学 — Philosophy

How I think

01
Never afraid to be the odd one out

When everyone moved north, I moved south — quite literally. Doing things differently isn't rebellion for its own sake. It's just the only way I know how to operate.

02
I don't give into social pressure

Specialising in one niche as a 20-year-old raised a few eyebrows. That's usually a sign you're onto something worth doing.

03
Learning is the point

I learn Japanese. I build tools. I write. The editing is part of a bigger thing — staying curious, staying creative, always moving toward something.

04
Creativity over comfort

The easy path is being a generalist. The interesting path is going deep on one thing and becoming the person who does it best. I picked the interesting path.

道具 — Tools

What I use

Machine

Mac Mini M4

Apple Silicon. Fast enough to handle long-form 4K timelines without breaking a sweat.

Display

Apple Studio Display

Colour-accurate enough for grading. Clean enough to not distract from the work.

Primary Editor

Adobe Premiere Pro

Main timeline. Handles the cut, the structure, the story. Where most of the work happens.

Motion & VFX

Adobe After Effects

Motion graphics, titles, and anything that needs to move in a way the timeline can't handle.

Input

Apple Magic Keyboard & Mouse

Simple, reliable, fast. The keyboard shortcut workflow is too ingrained to change now.

Audio

Soundcore Space Q45

ANC for focus. Good enough audio separation to catch what the timeline speakers miss.

Making Japan travel content?

If you need an editor who already understands the genre, knows what the audience expects, and doesn't need three rounds of feedback to get it right — let's talk.
